About the Event

Bring your friends and family down for a free day of science and activities suitable for everyone! Programming will include two shows by Science World.  Festival-goers of all ages will get a chance to meet world-class researchers and innovators, participate in hands-on experiments, and see amazing scientific demonstrations at UBC’s Downtown Campus.

Presenters

BC Hydro
Learn about electrical safety and a sustainable energy supply for the future.

Pacific Museum of Earth
The PME is Vancouver’s premier earth science museum, helping educate people on a wide range of topics include atmospheric science, oceanography, geology and planetary science.  There will be information on the wide range of programs offered at the PME and activities related to their work.  You might get to touch and feel some very old rocks.

Code Ninjas
Learn all about computers and coding with the help of a trusty ninja.

Zen Maker Lab
Zen Maker Lab will be bringing 3D printers and demonstrating how they can be used.

Genome BC
Find out about genetics and see your DNA!

Westcoast Women In Engineering, Science and Technology (WWEST)
WWEST will share facts regarding neurons and how they are necessary for our bodies, along with principles of coding encryption through patterning and/or Morse code. Much like neurons send messages around the human body, Morse code also sends messages! Participants at this booth will have the opportunity to apply their understanding of neurons and coding, in the creation of a neuron-morse (or pattern) coded bracelet to take home with them.

STEM ACES
Just for kids! STEM ACES will be hosting a variety of different activities suitable for kids aged 6-11 years old.

Vancouver Premier College
Activities for high school kids based on the engineering design process.

UBC Mathematics
The Math Mania team will be on-site hosting activities suitable for kids 5 and up.

SFU Centre for Forensic Research
SFU will be providing a unique opportunity for attendees wanting to explore Maggot Art! Maggot art allows students to learn the usefulness of insects in forensic science investigations. Live maggots are dipped into non-toxic paint and young minds will guide the maggots as they crawl to create beautiful paintings. This is the perfect booth to visit for those eager to combine their scientific and artistic passions.”
