Join us for our Summer Pop-Up Concerts at UBC Robson Square! We’re bringing our most talented students to perform for you right in the heart of downtown on select Thursdays this July and August. Bring a friend, grab some lunch, and drop by our Plaza Lounge to enjoy an hour of classic tunes brought to you by the UBC School of Music.
Performers
The Matrix Duo: Mina McKenzie and Jack Campbell
Jack Campbell is a composer, violinist and guitarist based in Vancouver, BC. He has worked with a wide array of arts organizations, including the Vancouver Art Gallery, Chali-Rosso Gallery, CMCBC, CMC Ontario (Activate Composers Program), Vancouver Pro Musica, Redshift Music, 100.5FM Radio, Vancouver Women’s Musical Society, Vancouver Art Gallery Connects, UBC Connects, Vancouver Chamber Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (Day of Music and Jean Coulthard Readings), International Thomas Pynchon Week, Group 302 Theatre, and UBC String Orchestra. He is a recitalist, new music soloist and a member of three contemporary music chamber ensembles, as well as a frequent performer for live theatre, radio productions, LPs, and video. Campbell has commissioned and debuted fifteen pieces for solo violin by Canadian composers. Campbell is an award recipient at the UBC School of Music, where he is pursuing a degree in Advanced Violin Performance. Campbell works as the Music and Concert Production Consultant at the Vancouver Art Gallery and Assistant to the Director at Redshift Music Society.
Mina McKenzie began studying piano at the age of 5 at the British Columbia Conservatory of Music. Since then, she has developed a great passion for music and performing.
In 2019, Mina received 1st Place at the Pacific Youth Piano Festival and 1st Place in the Yarilo Contemporary Music Society Scholarship Competition. Additionally, she has been an award recipient of the BC Performing Arts Provincial Festival, the BC Art’s Council, and the 27th Bjorn & Lori Hareid Annual Senior Secondary Competition. She has performed as a soloist with the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra and the Coquitlam Youth Orchestra.
She has competed and received top prizes in local music festivals such as the Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festival, the KPU International Music Festival, the British Columbia Conservatory of Music Festival, the Richmond Music Festival, and the CDMF Performing Arts Festival. She won First Place in the VWMS 2019-2020 Scholarship Competition. In addition, she has competed internationally and was a semi-finalist at the Seattle International Piano Competition and a finalist in the Vancouver International Music Competition. She has studied piano with Susan Ouyang and Dr. Henri-Paul Sicsic, and is currently pursuing her Bachelors in Piano Performance under Dr. Corey Hamm at the University of British Columbia.

Africans in BC Town Hall
An end-of-year townhall for Africans in the diaspora to come together to network, connect, and discuss how to give back to the development of the continent.

Cinema Thinks the World: Mariupolis (2016)
A free screening and discussion of Mariupolis, a documentary made in 2016 by Lithuanian filmmaker Mantas Kvedaravicius about the contested Ukrainian city of Mariupol.
