Navigating Higher Education in Canada and the US: From Personal to Professional Experience
Isabel Peng is the director of first year experience at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), where she leads new student transition programs and supports students as they navigate university and graduate school life. Prior to this role, Isabel worked in residential life which she credits to her experience as a resident advisor (RA) at UBC. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in sociology from UBC in 2016, she obtained a master’s degree in social work from the University of Southern California. In Isabel’s free time, she enjoys trying new restaurants and exploring different neighborhoods in Los Angeles with her dog, Bagel and husband.
In this session, Isabel will be discussing her academic experience attending a Canadian public institution for her undergraduate studies, followed by graduate school at an US private institution. In addition, she will share her journey as a student leader at UBC and what transferable skills she uses in her career as a student affairs professional working in higher education.
