The UBC Indigenous Science Colloquium presents a conversation with Dr. Salena Hill, a member of the Apsáalooke (Crow) and Amaskapi Pikuni (Blackfeet) Tribal Nations and Assistant Professor in the Doctoral Program of Leadership Studies. She holds a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of Montana. During her doctoral studies, Salena learned from Indigenous scholars who grounded their work in Indigenous methodologies. This experience deepened her commitment to Indigenous Knowledge Systems, inspiring her to center her teaching in Apsáalooke (Crow) methods while upholding the core Indigenous values of relationship, responsibility, reciprocity, and respect. Her teaching and research focus on relationality and personal development, utilizing Indigenous methods to Indigenize academic spaces and create more inclusive, culturally responsive learning environments.

Dr. Hill will join Dr. Shandin Pete (UBC EOAS Professor of Teaching) and Salisha Old Bull (UBC Faculty of Science Indigenous Academic Advisor) for an engaging discussion on the complexities of integrating Indigenous knowledge in academic spaces.
