This event is presented in partnership with the 2nd Annual Racial (In)Justice Lecture on January 28, presented by the UBC Departments of Anthropology and Sociology. Professor Gurminder Bhambra will speak virtually at the event from 12:30pm-2pm, on her most recent co-authored book Colonialism and Modern Social Theory: Decolonising an Absence.
This series is supported by alumni UBC
About the Masterclass:
The significance of postcolonial and decolonial critique is not simply to add colonialism to our repertoire of topics, but to show how that repertoire must change and be transformed in the light of taking colonialism seriously. What does it mean to ‘decolonise’ a curriculum in which colonialism has been unrecognised?
The class is free and open to the broader UBC community, but participants are asked to register in advance. The Masterclass will be moderated by Sunera Thobani, UBC Department of Asian Studies.
Suggested background reading prior to the event.
