Please join us for the launch, celebration and honoring of Wingspan’s film, Wings Rising: Disability Justice, Art and Education, Directed by Thomas Buchan and Produced by Leslie G. Roman Wingspan at UBC.

4 pm – Doors Open
4:30 pm – Indigenous and Wingspan disability procession with Land Acknowledgement (Larry Grant, Musqueam Elder)

5:00 pm – The Honorable Carla Qualtrough, Federal Minister of Sport and Physical Activity, MMP Delta and Paralympian and Accessibility Advocate, Recorded Speech and/or may be in attendance. “Striking a Chord of Disability Confidence: Words of Encouragement for Wingspan and Canadian Schools” (7 mins).
5:07 pm – Film launch: Wings Rising: Disability Justice, Art and Education, (22 mins.)
Honoring the film director, Thomas Buchan film crew (Dan Rocque, Brian Cheung and sound designer and composer, Marcus Zurh).
5:30 pm – Prof. Leslie G. Roman, introducing the roundtables (slide on screen shows questions from Carla Qualtrough)
5:45 pm – Facilitated Round Tables and Open mic, sharing of ideas and responses: Delta and the Vancouver School Board Representatives: Mark Robinson, Principal Seaquam Secondary and Andrew Robinson, teacher, VSB: Katie Clark, Vice Principal, Elsie Roy, VSB, teachers, Jesse Costello and Ashely Kuzma, formerly from Elsie Roy as UBC B.Ed. Practicum student, now teacher; and Assoc. Dean Karen Ragoonaden, Assoc. Dean, UBC-Teacher Education and Associate Vice President of Equity and Inclusion, Arig al Shaibah and Jenel Shaw, Wingspan coordinator and Exec. Director of AccessAbility Arts Manitoba.

6:15 pm – Red Carpet to Honor all the Wingspan educational leaders, dis/artists, teachers, students
6:30 pm – Musical performances by Jugpreet Bajwa, Grade 12 Jazz musician from Seaquam and surprise guests flying in from Manitoba, jazz musicians Connor Derraugh + Cordelia Donovan.
6:50 pm – Closing remarks -Profs Leslie G. Roman and Andre Mazawi.
7 pm – Pop the bubbly!
