A Big-Data Approach to Women’s Health Research

September 26, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Free

The Women’s Health Seminar Series features multidisciplinary research on women’s health. The goal of the series is to provide multidisciplinary training and mentorship to faculty, students, and community members across a broad range of women’s health research topics. Speakers will present their research regarding the biological, psychological, behavioural, economic and social impacts on women’s health outcomes through a 45 minute talk and engage with attendees in an interactive 15 minute question and answer period. The series is open to anyone interested in attending!

Presenter: Dr. Ann-Marie de Lange, SNSF Ambizione Fellow at Lausanne University Hospital, Switzerland

Talk Summary: The emergence of big, open-access datasets offers exciting new opportunities in neuroimaging and population-health research. UK Biobank contains in-depth genetic and health data from half a million participants, with information on reproductive history, menopause, and hormone usage. Population-based studies can contribute to a more complete understanding of women’s brain health, but the complexity of large and comprehensive datasets also poses challenges. In this talk, Dr. de Lange will share her experience with using UK Biobank data to address women’s health related research questions, including challenges encountered in big-data analyses.
