Meaningful Community Engaged Learning Experiences for International Students: Introducing an Inclusive Toolkit
June 6 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
This event is part of the CTLT Spring Institute, taking place from June 3–6, 2024.
In this session, Dr. Shadi Mehrabi and Mirella Livoti from the Centre for Community Engaged Learning will introduce a Faculty Toolkit with a focus on Inclusive CEL Courses for International Students. The toolkit serves as a guide for faculty members to develop CEL courses through three recommended stages: Design, Development, and Delivery.
This session, as well as the toolkit itself, primarily addresses Strategy 15 of the UBC Strategic Plan: “Student Experience,” providing instructors with resources and tools to make CEL initiatives more inclusive for international students. By doing so, instructors foster meaningful experiences for students on personal, academic, and professional levels, and contribute to their sense of belonging.
The main learning outcomes for this session are:
- Attendees will become familiar with the Faculty Toolkit: Inclusive CEL Courses for International Students
- Attendees will be able to identify the steps and resources needed to develop an inclusive community engaged learning course, with a focus on providing meaningful spaces for international students
Facilitators:
- Shadi Mehrabi, Community Engaged Learning Officer, Centre for Community Engaged Learning, UBCV
- Mirella Reichenbach Livoti, Project Assistant, Centre for Community Engaged Learning, UBCV
