Cultivating the Wellbeing of Students and Educators through Simple but Effective Wellbeing Pedagogies and Practices
August 22 @ 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm
This event is part of the CTLT Summer Institute, taking place from August 19–22, 2024.
Integrating wellbeing into learning environments is foundational to supporting students achieving deeper learning, academic success and personal growth. UBC’s 2023 Teaching Practices survey found those with teaching responsibilities overwhelmingly agreed (over 90%) that teaching practices have an impact on student wellbeing. There is also a ripple effect on faculty wellbeing if students are not doing well. What practices are most impactful at cultivating wellbeing for students, self, and colleagues?
Join members of the Teaching and Wellbeing Community of Practice to explore simple but effective ways to incorporate wellbeing pedagogy and resources in learning settings. We also actively welcome your involvement in identifying strengths, gaps and areas of opportunity to further embed wellbeing into teaching and learning settings at an individual, interpersonal, organizational and policy level at UBC. Ideas shared will inform a campus wellbeing plan to accelerate action in mental health and wellbeing policies, and practices in teaching and learning settings.
Anticipated session learning outcomes:
- Acquire knowledge on how to cultivate wellbeing in learning settings, including through peer and student-identified ideas
- Develop confidence to experiment with at least one novel strategy aimed at enhancing wellbeing within the learning settings
- Contribute to the development of a campus wellbeing plan for teaching and learning settings
Facilitators:
- Gail Hammond, Associate Professor of Teaching in Food, Nutrition and Health
- Louella Monaghan, Health Promotion Specialist, Health Equity, Promotion and Education Unit
- Sara Kozicky, Wellbeing Strategic Initiatives Project Manager, Office of Wellbeing Strategy
