Climate Action Week at UBC Library
November 2 - November 8
Join UBC Library for BC Climate Action Week from November 2 to 8. Participating library branches will be hosting climate action related events, activities and exhibits.
Events happening all week (November 2-8):
- Add your thoughts to Woodward Library’s felt board and then spend some time at the puzzle table or create at the Lego Station’s “Build the Change” challenge. All activities are on the entrance level of Woodward.
- Visit “The Heat is On: Creative Responses to Climate Action in Music, Art, and Architecture” at the Music, Art, and Architecture Library on level three of the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre.
- Visit books displays on topics related to climate change and climate action at the UBC Okanagan, Education, Koerner, and Woodward Libraries.
- Check out print and ebooks from our Climate Booklists as well as this list on Climate Justice for k-12 teachers.

Planet-Friendly Wrapping: Making Furoshiki for Sustainable Gift-Giving
Furoshiki are squares of fabric that can be tied and wrapped for many purposes: they can become a bag, a book holder or bottle wrap, or a lovely embellishment to a present that also substitutes for plastic and paper giftwrap materials. Learn how to cut and sew your own furoshiki, and then learn the skills to wrap it for various purposes. A second workshop will be offered on November 26 at Asian Library.

FIRE Talk: Climate Justice
Join us on November 6 in the UBC Library Research Commons as graduate students present their research on Climate Justice from different disciplinary perspectives. The FIRE Talks provide space for graduate students to present their research and connect with other graduate students around common research interests. Students present for a maximum of 5 minutes on their topic, and then the interdisciplinary panel discusses the topic from their disciplinary perspectives, sharing their thoughts and insights.

Climate Change & Indigenous Peoples
What is the difference between climate and weather? What stories can you tell about climate change in your life? What can we do as individuals, community members, nationally to address environmental challenges? Join us for an interactive event featuring the Indigenous Peoples Giant Floor Map to engage with climate action possibilities. This event is located in the FNHL Longhouse and co-hosted by the X̱wi7x̱wa and Education Libraries. No registration required.

Repair Café and Mending Circle
Visit the Woodward Library repair cafe for help with sewing, darning, repairing small electronics, and making reusable beeswax wrap. Textile and electronics experts will be on hand to assist. Textile repairs can include helping with holes, tears, buttons, and patching. Acceptable items for electronic repair include: clean small appliances such as toasters, coffee makers, vacuums, blenders, and electronic items such as DVD players, radios, and gaming systems. We gratefully acknowledge Inspiring Community Grants for their financial support of our project.Date and time: Thursday, November 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

UBC Zero Waste Market at Koerner Library
Stop by Koerner Library to find out more about the UBC Zero Waste Market and maybe pick up some reusable office supplies or stationary. The Market will be easy to spot in the Koerner Library lobby area when you enter the building.
