Bridging worlds: Integrating Indigenous knowledges and design thinking for digital adolescent mental health assessment
This interactive presentation explores the intersection of Indigenous knowledge, design thinking, and e-mental health tool development to address the mental health needs of adolescents. Drawing upon the rich oral traditions and protocols of Indigenous storytelling, we delve into the potential synergies between traditional knowledge systems and modern approaches to youth mental health care from a diversity, equity, inclusive, and decolonial lens. By leveraging design thinking approaches, we aim to create culturally relevant and effective e-mental health tools tailored to the unique needs of historically marginalized youth. Through collaborative efforts, we seek to foster a holistic approach that honours Indigenous perspectives while harnessing technological innovations to promote adolescent mental wellbeing. This participatory presentation offers insights and practical strategies for integrating Indigenous knowledges into the development of e-mental health solutions, ultimately aiming to bridge the gap between traditional healing practices and contemporary mental health interventions.
