About Roots
The Roots Circle, also called Roots: An Indigenous Partnered Research Circle, is a series of events open to students, staff, faculty, and Indigenous community members interested in research partnerships between Indigenous communities, collectives, and organizations (ICCOs) and UBC. Our gatherings support folks in navigating research and partnerships in more relational, respectful, and appropriate ways.
Our ultimate goal is to enhance the capacity of the UBC community to build meaningful partnerships with ICCOs in order to advance Indigenous health research led by ICCOs themselves. Through our work, we seek to advance and uphold the rights of Indigenous peoples in research and education in accordance with UNDRIP, TRC Calls to Action, the Faculty of Medicine Strategic Plan, and the UBC Indigenous Strategic Plan.
