Population Effects of Implementing Multi-gene Panel Sequencing for Advanced Cancers in BC: An Interrupted Time Series Analysis

April 13, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Speaker: Deirdre Weymann, BC Cancer

Register to attend in-person in SPPH (room B104) or virtually (via Zoom).

In September 2016, British Columbia became the first Canadian province to publicly reimburse multi-gene panel sequencing for informing advanced cancer care. The impacts of Oncopanel sequencing on population health and health system expenditures remain unknown. We draw on interrupted time analysis across eligible cancer types to estimate monthly changes in mortality and mean healthcare costs pre and post Oncopanel implementation.

Deirdre Weymann is a Senior Health Economist within Cancer Control Research at BC Cancer and a co-investigator in the Canadian Network for Learning Healthcare Systems and Cost-Effective ‘Omics Innovations (CLEO). Her work focuses on improving the reliability and uptake of real-world evidence to inform decision-making for precision medicine. Deirdre holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Victoria and a Bachelor of Science in Economics, minoring in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of British Columbia.
