2025 Fall Science Slam

October 9, 2025 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

The UBC Department of Physics & Astronomy has partnered with Science Slam Canada to run regular “Science Slams” for undergraduate students! This popular science communication competition showcases our undergrad science communication and teaching skills to a high school audience! All are welcome at these events, posted on our PHAS Events page and on Eventbrite. These events are regularly scheduled in October and February during the academic year.

Science Slam Schedule

Join us for our Fall 2025 Science Slam happening on Wednesday, October 8th, 2025 on UBC-V campus in HENN 202 from 5:30pm-7:30pm. Registration will open at 5:00pm.

What is a Science Slam?

This event showcases undergraduate students presenters (or “slammers”) as they explain a science concept, law or theory in 5 minutes (this is a timed event!) without the use of academic slides or vocabulary, to a high school audience. Slammers are judged on their presentation engagement, science accuracy, and creativity.

We invite high school students and their families to join us and cheer on our slammers! We also provide staff advisors and faculty so everyone can ask questions about our programs, courses and other questions about physics and astronomy. High school students have the chance to win prizes, engage with undergraduate science students and ask questions about research opportunities, jobs, and university life in the Faculty of Science.

The Department of Physics & Astronomy Outreach strives to provide relevant science communication opportunities for our students at the undergraduate level to better prepare them for careers in academia, business, education and industry. We also wish to inspire all young scientists!
