The UBC Department of Psychiatry Annual Research Day is an annual forum for showcasing new research, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and translating scientific discoveries into clinical practice. The event brings together faculty, trainees and clinicians to explore advances in psychiatric neuroscience, clinical interventions and mental health policy.

This year’s program features plenary speaker Dr. Martin Paulus (Laureate Institute for Brain Research), presenting “Learning Optimal Depression Treatment Sequences via Counterfactual Trajectory Optimization,” alongside faculty lectures from Dr. John-Jose Nunez, presenting “Predictive and Generative AI for Mental Health: Building Tools for Patients & Clinicians“, and Dr. Sinan Gülöksüz, presenting “The role of gene–environment interplay in youth mental health: results from the Youth-GEMs study“. The day also includes trainee-led lightning talks and poster presentations highlighting both fundamental and applied research from across the department.

The event will be held Thursday, June 18, 2026 at the UBC Life Sciences Centre and is also available to attend online via Zoom. Registration is free and open to all members of the UBC community. This activity is accredited by UBC CPD.
