Things to Do to Take Your Mind Off Midterms

When the middle of October rolls around, many UBC students go into midterm mode. We know that studying for exams and writing papers is stressful, so it’s even more important now to stay healthy, both physically and mentally. Here are some things for you to do on campus to give yourself a break.

Attend a Thrive event

From October 30 – November 5, there is going to be a series of Thrive events that aim to build positive mental health on campus. Join the kick-off event on October 30 for food, music, and to chat with people about mental health. You can also get active at UBC’s Largest Zumba class. See their calendar of events >>

Try a drop-in activity from UBC Recreation

Get moving with drop-in sports, skating, or swimming. Drop-ins are free for students to attend with a valid UBC student card. They offer basketball, volleyball, and even handball. If you haven’t swam at the new UBC Aquatic Centre yet, you can check it out during a public swim time. See the schedules>>

Join a UBC Yoga Club class

Stretch it out with a yoga class. It’ll be refreshing for your body and soul. The UBC Yoga Club hosts a handful of different practices, such as Acroyoga, Bliss Flow, Power Yoga, and more. Classes are held in the AMS Nest or the Hillel House, and they are only $5 per session. Look into a membership if you want to attend more classes throughout the year. See the classes >>

Catch a UBC Improv Club show

Come out for a laugh and decrease your stress levels at the same time. Watch this season’s talented improvisers put on a hilarious show in the Neville Scarfe theatre. They had their season-opening show earlier in October so keep an eye out for their upcoming events. Find out more >>

Attend a Daily Meditation Sit

Take a breather with the UBC Meditation Community. Every weekday, this AMS club holds a meditation sit that’s open for people of all experience levels. They have a variety of different meditation practices, so check the details on their website to see what would be best for you. The sits are always conveniently held in the AMS Nest. Find out more >>
