October 2: Career Days10am – 4pm, Student Union Building

Come and explore various career opportunities at UBC’s largest career fair located in the SUB! With 75 companies participating, you can network with industry leaders and learn about jobs from different organizations, summer/co-op programs, positions for new graduates.

October 2 – 5: UBC Theatre presents: The Caucasian Chalk Circle7:30pm, Chan Centre (Telus Studio Theatre)

Just four more shows to go before closing! Make sure you get your tickets soon before they sell out! Prices: Student tickets $10, Reg. $22, Seniors $15.

October 5: UBC Farm Saturday Market 9am – 1pm

We all know that Vancouverites love fresh, organic produce!  UBC’s very own farm market offers a delicious assortment of produce, baked goods, coffee and more. There will be live music, fun filled family activities, and free farm tours at 11am.

October 5:  UBC Symphony Orchestra – Stravinsky: The Rite of Spring8pm – 10pm, The Chan Centre

The UBC Symphony Orchestra celebrates the centennial year of Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring” with its first performance of this electrifying work. Admission is free.

October 8-10: UBC REC Badminton Championship and Table Tennis Championship1pm, Student Recreation Centre

Two multi-day tournaments the same day offering a fun competition for all skill levels. Cost: $10.50

October 9: Global Experience Fair11am – 5pm, Irving K. Barber Learning Centre

You can get information about international learning and getting global experiences from UBC students who have studied abroad.

October 11: UBC Thunderbirds Women’s Ice Hockey vs. Calgary Dinos – 7:00pm – 9:00pm

Get your Thunderbird spirit on by cheering for the Women’s Ice Hockey team. Tickets are $10 for Adults, $5 Youth/Seniors, $2 for UBC Students. Buy online tickets HERE.

October 17: Go Global Exchange Info Session3:30pm – 4:15PM, H.R. Macmillan Building room 154

An info session led by advisors and past exchange students who will provide  students a better sense of what it means to go on exchange.

October 19: Apple Festival11:00am – 4:00pm

A family event for all ages celebrating British Columbia’s favourite fruits. Come try up to 60 different apples and enjoy the festival atmosphere.  Cost: $4

October 20-26: Celebrate Learning Week9:00am – 4:00pm

A week-long initiative celebrating teaching and learning opportunities honoring faculties, students and staff in UBC. Cost: Free, registration needed.

October 21: Gairdner Foundation Symposium4:00pm-6:00pm, Life Sciences Centre (LSC2)

Kim Nasmth and Sir Gregory Winter, two prominent life sciences and Canada Gairdener Award Recipients share their knowledge with us by conducting two presentations about Chromosomes, by Dr. Nasmth and “The Antibody Revolution” by Dr. Winter.  Admission is Free.

October 23: Pink Hijab Day- Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar3:00pm – 4:15pm, Simon K.Y Lee HKU-UBC House (Global Lounge)

A representative from the BC Cancer Foundation will be giving a talk about breast cancer, focusing on its prevalence and prevention.

October 25: Free Lunch Hour Series: Resumes that Get Results 12:00pm – 1:00pm, UBC Robson Square

An interactive session led by volunteer career advisors offer practical guidance to help master the technique in resumé writing.

October 26: Celebrate Science 2013 Making Science Fun9:30am – 12:30pm, Beaty Biodiversity Centre

A FREE science and math event targeted for youths. Dr. Andrew Trites shares his experience and research on marine mammals.  Cost: Free

October 26: UBC Thunderbirds Men’s Volleyball vs. Trinity Western Spartans7pm, War Memorial Gym

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for Youth/Seniors, $2 for UBC Students.

October 27: Women’s Self Defence Workshop12:00pm – 3:00pm, Student Recreation Centre

This class is designed for crime prevention, self-defence, personal safety empowerment for Women. Cost varies from $27-$34, must register by October 21.

October 30: Artist’s Talk: Christos Dikeakos: The Photo Show12:00pm – 2:00pm, Audain Art Centre (AHVA Gallery Room 1001)

A new exhibition brought to you by the Department of Art History, Visual Art and Theory with original works exhibited in1969.

October 31: Nitobe Basketball Casual League

12:30pm – 1:30pm, UBC REC
