Working with Interpreters: A Practical Skill for Future Professionals

May 6 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

This event is part of the 2026 Celebrate Learning Week, taking place from May 4 – 8, 2026.

Students in healthcare, social services, and legal fields will often work with clients who speak little or no English. Yet many trainees receive little preparation on how to communicate effectively across language barriers. This session introduces practical strategies for working with professional interpreters in real-world settings. Drawing on over twenty years of experience as a certified interpreter and language access advocate, the presenter will share common challenges, best practices, and examples from practice. Designed for students and trainees preparing for professional roles, this session offers practical tools to support clear communication and more equitable services for linguistically diverse communities.
