The 19th D. Harold Copp Lecture with Dr. Pieter Cullis

May 5, 2023 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Join the UBC Department of Cellular & Physiological Sciences for the 19th D. Harold Copp Lecture with Dr. Pieter Cullis, on “Lipid Nanoparticle Systems for Enabling Gene Therapies”. Join in-person or online on May 5, 2023 from 3–4 pm.

The D. Harold Copp Lecture is a UBC Faculty of Medicine sponsored lectureship that arose in November 1996 through donations from the Medical Research Council of Canada and the Wolfe and Gita Churg Foundation. Named after the late Doctor D. Harold Copp, the Copp Lecture is hosted each year by the Faculty of Medicine and speakers are nominated by members of the faculty, and selected by the Copp Lecture committee.

In this talk, Dr. Cullis will describe the historical development of lipid nanoparticle (LNP) systems leading to the development of Onpattro and how related LNP delivery technology is being employed to enable many mRNA-based gene therapy drugs — including the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 mRNA vaccine.
