Contract Faculty CoP: Designing Assignments for Deep Learning in the Age of A.I.: A Practical and Ethical Approach

September 19, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Multi-access

The use of A.I. in many aspects of our lives has become the topic of the day. At all levels of education, particularly in higher education, the concerns about the use of A.I., academic integrity and the effect on deep learning continue to grow. Colleges and universities are scrambling to formulate policies to address a tool that is growing rapidly. While some instructors and their learning objectives can use this tool for their benefit at this point, others are looking for ways to encourage and guide students to learn in ways that do not use A.I. This Community of Practice will share some practical techniques for assignment design, as well as some scholarly findings about the sobering social justice and environmental impacts of using A.I.

This session will be approximately an hour and half, and will be delivered in hybrid mode.

A light lunch will be provided for those who attend in-person. If you are attending in person, please let us know so we can plan for food. Last-minute cancellations or no-shows contribute to food waste, so please consider this when you register. We’re looking forward to seeing you and building our community of learning together as contract academics and instructors.

Facilitators:
