Top Events to Celebrate International Women’s Day

Each year, March 8 is International Women’s Day and an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of women and to continue towards the achievement of gender equality in Canada and around the world. This year, UBC has an assortment of events to celebrate International Women’s Day all week long.


Diverse Perspective on the #MeToo Movement: Where Do We Go From Here?

Join the UBC School of Public Policy and Global Affairs as they discuss various perspectives on the impacts of the #MeToo Movement bringing into the conversation UBC students, alumni and the audience alike. A light dinner with vegetarian and gluten free options will be provided by Tayybeh.

Women in Finance

In honour of International Women’s Day, UBC Trading Group invites guests to an evening of networking and speeches from leading female professionals in the finance industry. The night will conclude with a panel discussion and Q&A session.

Turn It Up and Disrupt

In celebration of International Women’s Day, partake in a festival celebrating gender equity, creative mobilization and positive change through art. Events include a special edition of MOA’s monthly music series, Sound House, art installations and booths, and an array of panels, workshops and performances at various Arts and Culture District venues.

Follow the Leader: Lessons from Women CIOs in Higher Education

Hear from the three women Chief Information Officers of UBC, University of Victoria, and Emily Carr University of Art + Design as they explore their leadership journeys, how they use their influence as senior executives and advice they would give to young professionals pursuing their own career paths. Allard International Women’s Day Celebration

Join the Centre for Feminist Legal Studies as they launch this year’s collection of photos surrounding the theme of #LawNeedsFeminismBecause. The event will include food, drinks and a photo booth. RSVP here.

YWiB UBC International Women’s Day Celebration

Featured on the DailyHive for the second year, YWiB UBC is back with the annual International Women’s’ Day event with this year’s theme being “When She Wins, You Win.” This formal function includes keynote speakers, a silent auction, and much more!

International Women’s day with BVP

Spend International Women’s Day with Black Vinyl Project with a night of 4 femme-driven musical acts, Cartems donuts, and DAVIDsTea. All proceeds will go to the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre.

WISE 2019: Mentorship Night

Women in Engineering invites you to partake in their annual mentorship event, an opportunity for female-identifying engineering students to connect with over 30 mentors in the industry and/or in academia. The event will include a catered dinner.
