1. Contest
1.1 The University of British Columbia (“UBC”) is a contest sponsor of UBCevents
1.2 This contest starts at 9 am Pacific Time on Monday, November 4, 2013 and closes on Friday, November 15, 2013 at 11:59 pm. There is two (2) prize to be won from among all the eligible entries received during the Contest Period. Void where prohibited.
2. How to Enter
2.1 No purchase necessary. Only 3 entries per person. This contest is open to UBC students over the age of 18. Employees and faculty members of UBC are not eligible to enter this contest.
2.2 To enter the @UBCevents Twitter contest from your Twitter account, follow UBCevents’s official Twitter account (“@UBCevents”) and tweet a photo with a caption describing which Thrive Week or #RippleEffectUBC event you are attending. Your Entry Tweet must include “@UBCevents” (each a “Mention”) so that your Entry Tweet appears in UBCevents’ Mentions tab. (Note: You will need to create a Twitter account if you don’t already have one. Membership on Twitter is free, and registration for Twitter can be obtained by logging on to www.twitter.com (the “Twitter web site”) and following the on-screen instructions to open an account). In addition, eligible entrants will need to become a “follower” of @UBCevents. Any Entry Tweet that does not follow the above format will be discarded and will not be eligible for entry in this Contest. Incorrect and/or incomplete Entry Tweets and Entry Tweets received outside the applicable Contest Period, and/or Entry Tweets that contain obscene, offensive, or any language communicating messages inconsistent with the positive images to which Contest Sponsors wish to associate (all as determined by Contest Sponsors in their sole discretion) will be void. All Entry Tweets must comply with the Twitter Terms of Service and Twitter Rules available at www.twitter.com. By following @UBCevents and sending your Entry Tweet you agree to these official rules and regulations (the “Rules”). Use of any automated, script, macro, robotic or other program(s) to enter or otherwise participate in this Contest is prohibited and will automatically result in disqualification. All entries are subject to verification. Limit of three (3) entries per individual and per Twitter account. If it is discovered that you attempted to enter more than one time during the Contest Period, all of your entries will be void. Important note: If your Twitter account is set to “protected mode”, your Entry Tweet and/or responses may not be visible in UBCevents’ inbox and may not thus be received by the Contest Sponsors unless you previously consented to permit UBCevents to see your Entry Tweet and/or responses.
3. HOW TO WIN
3.1 On Monday November 18, 2013 at approximately 10am-11pm PT, a random draw for the Prize will take place at UBCevents from among all eligible entries received during the Contest Period. The odds of winning a Prize will depend upon the total number of eligible entries received during the Contest Period. UBCevents, acting reasonably, will attempt to contact the potential Prize winner to notify potential winner that he or she may have won the Prize by using the direct message feature on Twitter for the user account that submitted the potentially winning entry Tweet, within one (1) business days from the draw. Potential winner must respond by Tuesday 10am, November 19, 2013 or he or she will be disqualified. If potential winner is not a Follower, then potential winner will have to become a Follower (so that UBCevents will be able to send a private direct message via Twitter) within the time stated in the Contest Sponsors’ submission of an @Reply to the potential winner or else Contest Sponsors may disqualify the potential winner at their sole discretion. Potential winner may discontinue following @UBCevents after the completion of the notification, eligibility verification and Prize fulfillment procedures outlined in these Rules. It is each entrant’s responsibility to set his or her account settings to accept contacts by UBCevents and to timely check his or her Twitter account for any such direct messages or @Replies. Proof of identification must be provided upon request. In the event that a potential winner does not comply with all the provisions as contemplated in these Rules, Contest Sponsors shall have the right to disqualify the potential winner, and draw an alternate potential winner, and the Contest Sponsors shall be fully and completely released and discharged from any liability or responsibility in this regard. The provisions and procedures referred to above relating to selection and notification of a potential winner, shall be applied, with the necessary amendments, until all qualified winners have been duly selected, but in any event, no later than Wednesday, November 20 2013 at 12pm.
4. Prizes
4.1 There are (2) prize. Two (2) gift cards to UBC Food Services. The approximate retail value of each prize is $25.00. Individual contestants can only win one (1) prize each.
4.2 The prizes must be accepted as awarded. No substitutions of the prizes are permitted except by UBC at its discretion. UBC reserves the right to substitute any of the prizes with other prizes of equal or greater value if any prize cannot be awarded as described for any reason. Prizes are non-transferable and are not redeemable for cash or credit, in whole or in part.
4.3 UBC may require winners to sign a liability/publicity release, including a consent to UBC posting the winner’s name and photograph on its website. If a winner fails to return the contest documents within the time specified by UBC, s/he will forfeit their prize and an alternate winner will be selected.
5. General Rules
5.1 By participating in this contest, each entrant and winner agrees to: (a) be bound by these Official Contest Rules and the decisions of UBC; and (b) release and hold harmless UBC, and its Boards of Governors, officers, employees and agents from and against any and all liabilities, losses, claims, demands, costs and expenses (including lawyer’s fees and litigation expenses on a solicitor and own client basis) whatsoever to which any of them may become subject arising from any actions or omissions by the entrant.
5.2 By participating in this contest, each entrant and winner agrees that UBC may post the winner’s name on its website.
5.3 The decisions of UBC in relation to this contest will be final and binding on all entrants.
5.4 UBC reserves the right to cancel, terminate, or suspend this contest, at its discretion, at any time without prior notice.
5.5 Each Prize claim is subject to verification by UBC and/or its designated representatives. Entries made with multiple addresses, under multiple identities, or through the use of any device or other method to enter more than three (3) times or entries that are in excess of the permitted number of entries are automatically void. All contest entries obtained through unauthorized sources or which are incomplete or in any way not in compliance with these Official Contest Rules are automatically void. UBC is not responsible for lost or late entries. UBC is not responsible for any miscommunications, failed communications systems, software malfunctions, or for any human errors in connection with this contest. UBC may suspend or terminate this contest if UBC is of the view this contest’s administration or fair play has been compromised.
5.6 Your personal information is collected under the authority of Section 26(c) of the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act (FIPPA). This information provided to enter this contest will be used only to administer this contest, and for no other reason.
5.7 This contest is subject to all applicable laws of the Province of British Columbia and the laws of Canada, as well as these Official Contest Rules.
