OUTweek 2016: Writing Workshop
This workshop will be a space to explore styles of writing particularly tailored to the queer community, with tips for writing for different identities in any medium, from poetry to prose. The workshop will be facilitated by the wonderfully talented Claire Robson. The workshop will look into how we write to make space for narratives outside of the cis heteronormative ones so commonly found. Snacks provided!

This interactive workshop will discuss ways to connect with sex and sexual relationships in ways that don’t rely on binaries, while envisioning more expansive notions of sex and intimacy
OUTweek 2016: Queer U Academic Conference
Queer U is an interdisciplinary student academic conference happening during OUTweek! Taking place on Saturday, Feb 6th, Queer U will be followed by a short reception in the same space. It is a space in which students and all academics can present their work on queer and trans subjects in relation to other disciplines and studies and to our communities.
OUTweek 2016: Opening Ceremony
The Opening Ceremony for this year’s OUTweek will take place at the flagpole in front of the old SUB’s main entrance. The event will start with a welcome speech and a land acknowledgement, followed by the flag raising to celebrate the official start of OUTweek! Celebratory cake and cupcakes will be provided!

“How to Love a Child”, the Janusz Korczak Lecture Series, is devoted to key issues crucial to the well-being and rights of children and young people today, with the hope that the lectures and panel discussions will provide fertile ground for a fruitful exchange of ideas and approaches to improving the situation of young people in all spheres of society.

Eurydice
Haunting, evocative, and minimalist; this contemporary American retelling of the Ancient Greek Orpheus and Eurydice myth is a fairytale for those who still believe in them. Eurydice’s father has been writing her letters from Hades, but when a dangerous stranger tempts Eurydice with the details, she is soon sent tumbling after him. Orpheus goes to get his girl but both must follow the underworld’s rules in order to find their way home.

Talk with Dr. Erica Frank
Erica Frank, MD, MPH has been internationally recognized for her work as a health educator, physician and activist. Dr. Frank is a Canada Research Chair in Preventive Medicine and Population Health at UBC, and the Founder of NextGenU.org. NextGenU.org is the first place in the world where anyone can take courses for credit for free thru collaboration with leading universities, professional societies, and government organizations. Dr. Frank will talk about the work of NextGenU.org and the possibility of expanding the course offerings and research conducted on them to include topics in education.
