DESCRIPTION:Learn the basics of using Git and GitHub for version control and collaboration. Git is widely used version control software that tracks changes to a group of files\, referred to as a repository. GitHub is a popular website for hosting and sharing Git repositories\, making it easier to collaborate and share your work. Together\, Git and GitHub provide a platform that is increasingly used for collaboration in research and academic environments. In this beginner workshop participants will learn key concepts\, create their own Git repository\, and publish to GitHub. No previous experience with Git is required. Familiarity with the command line interface will be helpful but is not necessary. DESCRIPTION:Speaker: M. Ehsan Karim\, UBC School of Population and Public Health\n  \nAI tools are increasingly acting like research assistants: finding papers\, summarizing evidence\, writing code\, and drafting/reviewing manuscripts. Their outputs can be fast\, polished\, and persuasive — but sometimes the most convincing answer is the one that most needs checking. This seminar uses concrete demonstrations from statistical and epidemiologic research workflows to show why LLM audit literacy is becoming an essential research skill. Rather than offering a technical training session\, the talk highlights why verification\, documentation\, and domain expertise matter before AI-generated outputs are used in research and decisions. \nM. Ehsan Karim’s research focuses on biostatistics\, advanced epidemiological methods\, and causal inference\, including the evaluation of high-dimensional propensity score and machine learning applications. His recent work addresses the intersection of artificial intelligence and health research.

DESCRIPTION:Learn the basics of using Git and GitHub for version control and collaboration. Git is widely used version control software that tracks changes to a group of files\, referred to as a repository. GitHub is a popular website for hosting and sharing Git repositories\, making it easier to collaborate and share your work. Together\, Git and GitHub provide a platform that is increasingly used for collaboration in research and academic environments. In this beginner workshop participants will learn key concepts\, create their own Git repository\, and publish to GitHub. No previous experience with Git is required. Familiarity with the command line interface will be helpful but is not necessary. This is part 2 of a two-part introductory workshop. \nPre-workshop setup \nPlease complete the pre-workshop setup to install the Bash shell and Git. SUMMARY:Meditation & Visualization Workshop (Green Collective Wellbeing Series)
DESCRIPTION:This workshop weaves together the theory and science of meditation — exploring its profound benefits for wellbeing — with an understanding of how meditative practice can serve as a bridge toward unity and oneness with all life. The majority of the session will be devoted to guided meditation and visualization practices\, inviting participants into a deeper experience of the interconnection between humanity and the broader family of life. \nDr. Farah Shroff has practiced meditation throughout her adult life. She is an active member of a meditation community with centres on these lands and across many countries worldwide. Meditation is a cherished and central part of her path\, and one to which she is deeply committed. She is currently leading a randomized clinical trial investigating yoga as a treatment for osteoporosis. A faculty member in the Department of Family Practice at UBC’s Faculty of Medicine\, she also maintains an active research collaboration with colleagues at Harvard University\, where she was awarded a fellowship at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in 2021–22. \nA “Student / Senior discount” will be available to apply on the registration page. \nIMPORTANT: You may wish you bring your own meditation cushion (if you have one).
