Sept 3: Imagine UBC

On the first day of classes, campus is transformed and the entire UBC community comes together to welcome you to the new school year. Join the class of 2023 for the Pep Rally and explore hundreds of student clubs, resources, and involvement opportunities that are a fit for you. 

Sept 3-13: AMS Firstweek

AMS Firstweek is a 2-week orientation with over 40 events all across campus including: a massive all-ages pool party, a wine and painting night, a paint party, a giant music festival and more. This long-standing tradition is a great way to meet fellow students and upper years with the new university life.

Sept 6: UBC Pride at Fairview Commons

Get ready for a free and fabulous evening where Pride comes to UBC in celebration of Positive Space, and the diversity of our community. UBC’s third annual Pride event features the best of UBC drag, voguing, slam poetry, queer library resources, and more. Join us to show off your Pride!

Sept 9-15: UBC Rec Free Week

Drop-in to work a little more movement into your day. UBC Rec has a line up of over 150 free classes across campus you won’t want to miss. No experience is required for any of the classes and all abilities are welcome! The classes are open to all students, staff & faculty, and the public.

Sept 10: UBC Connects: Helen Fisher

Is technology changing who and how we love? In this talk, acclaimed anthropologist and neuroscientist Dr. Helen Fisher reveals the three brain systems that evolved for mating and reproduction—the sex drive, romantic love, and attachment—and maintains that while online dating won’t alter these basic mating instincts, it is definitely changing how we court and who we choose.

Sept 14: Homecoming Football Game

Break out the blue, get out your gold! If you’re a UBC student, start your festivities early at one of the many pre-game events. Join the march to Thunderbird Stadium in the Homecoming Trek with hundreds of fellow T-Birds, collecting students at residences across campus. Then enjoy pre-game fun at the Homecoming Street Party in the stadium parking lot, which includes fun games, food trucks, and live music.

Sept 14: UBC Farm Fall Fair

Celebrate the changing seasons and learn about sustainable food at our third annual Fall Fair, where you can get your fill of fall bounty fruits and vegetables alongside u-pick pumpkins, pie contest and tasting, live music, kids’ activities, weirdest veggie contest, and more!

Sept 26: Margaret Atwood in Conversation

Acclaimed author Margaret Atwood joins the Vancouver Writers Fest to discuss her coming novel, The Testaments. Atwood’s sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale picks up the story fifteen years after Offred stepped into the unknown, with the explosive testaments of three female narrators from Gilead.

Sept 26: Harvest Feastival

This year marks the 6th annual Harvest Feastival! The fall evening begins with a long table dinner featuring fresh, local food from the UBC Farm, followed by arts and culture programming.

Sept 28-29: Day of the LongBoat

Join one of UBC’s biggest fall events which hosts over 3,000 people in the waters off Jericho Beach. Have some fun with your friends, and faculty members in a voyageur canoe and enjoy the sun, sand and ocean! Competitive and Just For Fun heats available.
