Halloween 2018: What’s Happening at UBC?

Haven’t decided what to do for Halloween yet? Here’s a run-down of some campus events.

Halloween at Wesbrook 

There are some spooky events happening at Wesbrook Village throughout the month of October. Check out their haunted house, watch some classic spooky (family-friendly!) movies, and more.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 25

History Trivia Night: Halloween Edition

Come get spooky with the History Students Association for their first trivia night of the year! Finally use your hard-earned knowledge from your wiki spiral on serial killers or your hours-long binge watching paranormal tv shows, and be crowned the Pumpkin King (includes a spot on the HSA’s Wall of Fame)! Bonus: dress up in a costume for free candy.

Koerner’s Pub

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26

[CVC] Boo’s n Brews: Bzzr Garden + TwelveWest

Get your spook on with UBC CVC and kick off your Halloween early at this free beer garden, featuring glow in the dark pong, a photo booth, slush cups, and more!

UBC Improv Gets Cursed!

UBC Improv is famous for selling out their bi-weekly shows in Neville Scarfe, and Halloween will be no exception! Come out for laughs, gaffs, and spooky improv comedy.

Cost: $4 at the door, $5 online

 

AMS Presents: Scream

This Halloween, AMS Events has you sorted with the largest Halloween party UBC has ever seen. We’re taking over the Nest for the multistage event of your worst nightmares. The Great Hall as you formerly knew will host the SCREAM main stage, where your favourite bangers will be chilling you to the bone. Come to The Pit if you dare, and immerse yourself in wicked mischief while we unnerve you with some captivating beats. Expect a campus event of grand proportions, two rowdy stages, harrowing fright, and one hell of a night!

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 27

UBC Anime Club’s Halloween Social

You are cordially invited to this Halloween Social! Come in costumes and enjoy some great activities for the evening. This year, their will also be pizza for dinner! Plus, you can register in advance for their cosplay contest.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 30 

Ghoulish Goodies – Candy Sale

The UBC Circle K International Club is holding a Halloween Candy Bag Sale! The days of trick-or-treating are long gone for most of us, but this Halloween, you can still enjoy the joys of Halloween candy without the hassle of going to strangers’ houses. On October 30th and 31st, come to the second floor of the nest to get some candy for you or your friends! All proceeds go to the BC Children’s hospital.

Campus-wide Zombie Parade

This is no trick. You’re in for a treat. Come join your Thunderbird Marching Band for some ghoulish Halloween beats! We’ll be blasting your favourite spooky tunes such as Thriller down Main Mall. Take a break from studying for those terrifying midterms. Get ready to get loud with us on the night before Halloween!

AMS Comedy Club Presents: Comedy Night: Spooky Edition!

Come to the comedy night that’s too spooky for you and me!  Featuring a Halloween drink draw; enter at the door and you can win a $15 drink comp, courtesy of the AMS Standup Comedy Club!

Spo0oOky Halloween Bake Sale

Treat yourself this midterm season with delicious, vegan treats on Halloween day, brought to you by Vegans of UBC.

Trick or Treat Yourself at the Wellness Centre

UBC students are invited to stop by the Wellness Centre this Halloween and enjoy our spooktacular event. Enjoy some healthy Halloween treats, make care packages for yourself and your friends, and learn more about wellness and self-care with our team of Wellness Peers!

Pumpkin Carving – UBC First Nations Longhouse Student Programming

A Halloween social event for all Indigenous students on campus. Carve pumpkins, eat snacks and win prizes for the most creatively carved pumpkin!

When: 12:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Cost: Free

 

Spookidarity ~ ! Halloween Party

Progressive groups from across campus are teaming up to host a wicked Halloween party. Sing your heart out or share some fiery poetry at our open mic, and then dance the injustices away on the dance floor. Dinner and Halloween candy will be provided, as well as baked goods to purchase by donation. There will also be a photobooth, an art wall and info about how to get more involved in progressive causes on campus. Justice-themed costumes are encouraged! Contributions go to Mutual Aid Puerto Rico and Medical Aid Palestine.

Halloween Pit Night ft. AVSTIN JAMES

Halloween falls on a Wednesday this year, which means a Halloween-themed Pit Night is a must! Vancouver’s own, AVSTIN JAMES, will be bringing his Halloweekend Tour to the University of British Columbia. With stops across North America at the University of Texas, University of Victoria, and University of Michigan, AVSTIN is wrapping this up with a grand finale performance back in his hometown.
