SUMMARY:UBC CPD: Nawh Whu’nus’en – We See in Two Worlds: Trauma sensitive practices for collectively healing in relationship
DESCRIPTION:The Nawh Whu’nus’en – We See in Two Worlds: Trauma sensitive practices for collectively healing in relationship curriculum is rooted in Two-Eyed seeing methodology\, weaving together Indigenous ways of knowing with Western trauma theory and neuroscience\, including Dr. Michael Yellow Bird’s work on neurodecolonization and Dr. Stephen Porges’ work on polyvagal theory. The curriculum is built on understanding of the immense power of experiential Indigenous land-based healing practices for maintaining a state of wellness. \nThis Pre-Conference workshop is an in-person adaptation of Levels 1 and 2 of the curriculum that have been offered online by UBC CPD\, in partnership with RCCbc since 2023.

SUMMARY:Legality and Impunity in Times of Crisis
DESCRIPTION:The world is in the throes of multiple crises\, from ongoing genocide and settler colonial violence\, to evolving forms of authoritarian governance and imperial warfare. The theme of ‘impunity’ has become part of mainstream political discourse as both cause and effect of the current international (dis)order. What is the political function of impunity in the current conjuncture? How does the law produce impunity and attend to its effects? \nThis symposium will gather critical legal scholars\, psychoanalysts\, artists and political theorists from around the world to discuss legality\, impunity and crisis in historical and contemporary forms\, drawing on a wide range of contexts\, methods and approaches\, including: Marwa Arsanios\, Suhad Bishara\, Moyukh Chatterjee\, Zahid R. Chaudhary\, Kamari Clarke\, Nisrin Elamin\, Sarah Hunt Tłaliłila’ogwa\, Gail Lewis\, Daniel Renwick\, Ken Reyes\, Gustavo Jose Rojas-Paez\, Lara Sheehi\, Nimer Sultany\, Vanessa Thompson and Sujith Xavier.

SUMMARY:Thinking Beyond the Market: The Path to Genuinely Affordable Housing
DESCRIPTION:Thinking Beyond the Market:\nThe Path to Genuinely Affordable Housing\n \nJune 1\, 2026\n6:30 pm – 9:00 pm\nat UBC Robson Square (map) \nRSVP \n \n  \nEveryone’s talking about housing affordability. But are we asking the right questions?  \nHow can national housing research be translated into local\, livable reality? Join UBC Connects at Robson Square for a screening of Thinking Beyond the Market\, a film by Dr. Brian Doucet that uncovers “hiding in plain sight” housing solutions across Canada. From non-market developments in Kitchener to Indigenous-led projects in Vancouver\, the film challenges us to view housing as a human right rather than just a commodity. \nFollowing the screening\, Andrea Reimer (UBC School of Public Policy and Global Affairs) will moderate an integrated dialogue featuring experts from Djaka Blais (Hogan’s Alley Society)\, Craig Jones (Housing Assessment Resource Tools)\, and the filmmaker Dr. Brian Doucet. By connecting the film’s national themes to the local work of the Housing Assessment Resource Tool (HART) group and Hogan’s Alley\, the panel will explore how research-backed strategies in land use and tenant protection can overcome the unique barriers to affordability in Vancouver. \nTo learn more about the film\, listen to an interview with Dr. Brian Doucet here and visit housingfilm.ca to watch the trailer. \nFree and open to all. \nThis event is organized in partnership with Dr. Brian Doucet\, UBC Community Engagement\, the Housing Assessment Resource Tools (HART)\, Balanced Supply of Housing (BSH)\, and Hogan’s Alley

SUMMARY:Evaluating TLEF and OER Projects
DESCRIPTION:Series: \n\nEvaluation and Research\nOpen Education\nTeaching and Learning Enhancement Fund (TLEF)\n\n\n\n\nProject evaluation is not only a required component of the reporting process for TLEF projects\, but helps you (and the project team) understand what is and isn’t working with regard to your project goals and which areas may need more attention. Ongoing and iterative evaluation will help you to improve project design and implementation\, make informed decisions\, identify ways to sustain your project after the TLEF period\, and ultimately reach your intended goals. \nAs part of this workshop\, we will help you to scope your evaluation questions into a manageable evaluation plan\, identify strategies (e.g.\, commonly used data collection methods)\, share resources\, and discuss common challenges of evaluation. \nIf you have other people on your team who are supporting the evaluation work in your project\, including Undergraduate/Graduate Assistants\, please extend this invitation to them. \n  \n\n\nPlease register to secure your spot.\nRegister
