UBC Humanities In Healthcare Narrative Medicine Case Competition

March 28 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Event Series (See All)
$5 – $15
To promote the development of narrative competence in healthcare, the Narrative Medicine Case Competition (NMCC) brings together participants from diverse disciplines to tackle a patient or community health crisis case. Participants will be placed into interdisciplinary teams and collaborate to design a comprehensive treatment plan or practical tool to support patient care.

The design process challenges teams to consider accessibility, interprofessional communication, and real-world feasibility. Participants will also address barriers faced by healthcare providers and explore attainable, effective strategies for improving patient outcomes. The goal of NMCC is to offer a hands-on opportunity to navigate the multidimensional challenges of healthcare delivery, guided by mentors with academic, clinical, and patient-centered experience.HIH’s Narrative Medicine Case Competition will have students working in groups of 3–4 to analyze a hypothetical patient case. Teams will present a plan that addresses the patient’s medical needs and personal goals, while also reflecting on systemic barriers that impact care and proposing ways to overcome them. This case will serve as a starting point for meaningful conversations about patient-centered care among future healthcare professionals.
