UBC Farm Community Workshop: Lentils 3 Ways: Budget-Friendly, Delicious, Sustainable

Join us for a fun, foodie demo & workshop where lentils take center stage! Discover how this humble, protein-packed pantry staple can help stretch your grocery budget without sacrificing flavor or satisfaction.  What You’ll Learn & Do: Taste your way through three delicious recipes: — Gluten-free lentil protein bread — Savory lentil meatballs — Bold and tasty Korean-style lentils. Get hands-on: Help prepare one of the recipes (savory lentil meatballs) and learn how to adapt it at home.  Take home practical tips on using lentils in everyday cooking to replace meat, save money, and boost nutrition. Perfect for anyone curious about plant-based eating, cooking on a budget, or just looking to add new go-to recipes to their weeknight routine.  (Please note that the lentil meatballs will be prepared with a combination of lentils and beef.)

With over 40 years experience in the food industry, Karen Curtis sees herself as a connector. She connects people with food in meaningful ways. As a community kitchen facilitator Karen believes her role is to work with people’s abilities, budgets, and needs to create relevant and useful meals. She is passionate about food security and supporting local farmers and producers. Karen’s adaptive and accessible teaching style means that toddlers through seniors can participate in the creation of beautiful, healthy food. Karen has experience as a food manufacturer and recipe developer. She is a veteran of the farmers market world, successfully running KICS Lemonade for 24 years
