September 20, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
If you’re a Black male student, drop by the Global Lounge to learn about the Black Male Initiative, which offers a safe space to connect to other Black male students on campus, as well as resources and support.
Register to attend and receive event updates: https://ubc.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0k8RtrYOY2q6cEC
About the kickoff event:
Meet fellow students who identify as Black men on campus and learn more about the initiative. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions, share your thoughts, and offer suggestions on how the program should be run. Food and drinks will be provided.
About the Black Male Initiative:
Of the Canadian provinces, British Columbia has the lowest representation of the Black population in Canada, and it is often difficult for Black male students in particular to access the support they need.
The Black Male Initiative is designed to support UBC male students who self-identify as Black. It provides a confidential space on campus for members to connect to other Black male students, where they can share their lived experiences with one another and receive both peer and mentor support.
The program strives to support all Black male students during their time at UBC with the following:
- Regular meetups for authentic group conversations
- Social events
- Mentorship opportunities
- Networking/Community building
- Safe space for Black male students only
