$250Audience: Learners with some experience in counselling and/or other clinical practice, who are interested in expanding their skills in working with individuals with serious/terminal illness and/or experiencing end of life. It is highly recommended to attend Session 1 prior to Session 2 as Session 2 will build on the foundational counselling skills from Session 1.
Description: Serious illness, terminal illness, and end-of-life are part of the life course. Living with a lifechanging or life-limiting illness carries many losses from the point of diagnosis, throughout the illness, and when death is nearer. Since conversations about death and dying are often uncomfortable, those living with a serious illness may have difficulty acknowledging their own fears, hopes, and feelings. When practitioners are supporting clients in these situations, they may feel challenged in how to have meaningful, supportive, and therapeutic conversations.
In Session 2, participants will build on the skills and counselling techniques from Session 1 and focus on conversations with clients who are near end-of-life, and for clients considering Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD).
