Map production with QGIS
January 24 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pmFree
This is an introductory workshop focusing on the fundamental concepts and skills needed to begin using QGIS to explore and analyze spatial data. It is also meant to help you understand how to get started composing a map document for print production. By the end of this workshop, attendees will have a basic understanding of spatial data, the QGIS graphical user interface, data attributes and symbolization, and how to publish a map for printing in a journal or report.
QGIS is a free and open source desktop geographic information system (GIS). It can be installed on Windows, MacOS, and Linux using the download instructions here: https://www.qgis.org/en/site/forusers/download.html. This workshop will use the Long Term Release (LTR) version 3.22.
The workshop will not be held in a computer lab, so please come to the workshop with a laptop and the LTR of QGIS already installed. If you have questions about installing the software or do not have a laptop, please contact Evan Thornberry before the workshop – firstname.lastname@example.org.
LOCATION: This event will be held in the Research Commons’ Digital Scholarship Lab, Walter C. Koerner Library, Room 497.
