Map production with QGIS

August 16, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

This is an introductory workshop focusing on the fundamental concepts and skills needed to begin using QGIS to explore and analyze spatial data. It is also meant to help you understand how to get started composing a map document for print production. By the end of this workshop, attendees will have a basic understanding of spatial data, the QGIS graphical user interface, data attributes and symbolization, and how to publish a map for printing in a journal or report.

QGIS is a free and open-source desktop geographic information system (GIS). It can be installed on Windows, MacOS, and Linux using the download instructions here: https://www.qgis.org/en/site/forusers/download.html. This workshop will use the Long Term Release version 3.22.

The workshop will be held in the Koerner Library Digital Scholarship Lab (Room 497), which has 10 computers with QGIS installed. They will be available on a first come, first serve basis. If you plan to use your own computer, please be sure to have the latest Long Term Release of QGIS installed on your laptop before arriving at the workshop.
