Introduction to Assessment Design at UBC

This event is part of the 2026 Summer Institute taking place from August 17 – 20, 2026.

This introductory workshop is designed for faculty who are new to teaching at UBC, whether they are teaching for the first time or bringing teaching experience from another institution. Participants will explore how assessment can support student learning and how to design assessments that align with course learning objectives.

The workshop introduces foundational principles of alignment and inclusive assessment design, and considers a range of common assessment approaches used at UBC. It will also address practical concerns such as fairness, academic integrity, and workload, helping participants make informed assessment choices in their own teaching contexts.
