Guest Speaker Series: Disability and Economic Inequality with Dr. Stefan Sunandan Honisch

February 24 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Title: Disability and Economic Inequality with Dr. Stefan Sunandan Honisch
Date: Monday, February 24th
Time: 4:00 – 5:00pm
Platform: Zoom – https://ubc.zoom.us/j/63757183043?pwd=UkYtmumJUivJr31IMUBRX35lCc359g.1

This talk explores how efforts to promote disability inclusion in the workplace, and in higher education often fail to address economic inequality. By drawing on personal experiences from working in both university and government environments, Dr. Honisch will provide concrete examples of how participants may take action to address this inequality in schooling and workplace settings.

Dr. Honisch will critically examine Canada’s provincial and federal policy landscape,
arguing that the problem of economic inequality cannot be addressed by a narrow focus on anti-ableism, diversity, and equity as stand-alone goals. This presentation invites your active participation, through considering the ways in which you might become part of a broad-based campaign to advocate for workplace accessibility as a public good, like healthcare, housing, and education.
