Gathering Good Stories: The Power to Set Hearts on Fire with Tony Oposa
June 21 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
FreeProfessor Stepan Wood of the Centre for Law & the Environment, and Professor David Boyd of the Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability, are excited to invite you to an informal gathering with the inimitable Philippine environmental lawyer and storyteller, Antonio Oposa Jr. Tony is famous for the 1993 Minors Oposa case in which the Philippine Supreme Court declared that old-growth logging violated the constitutional rights of Philippine children and future generations. He also successfully sued dozens of government entities to clean up Manila Bay, and is famous for surviving death threats that resulted in the assassination of his law partner and fellow environmental defender. Tony combines law, activism, education, art, storytelling and humour to nudge humanity toward a more sustainable path.
Tony is joining the Centre for an informal gathering in the Yurt at the UBC Farm to talk about one of his current initiatives, the Good Stories project, and invite audience members to share their own stories of progress towards a more sustainable world. The event will start at 1pm with lunch and mingling. The collective conversation will start at 1:30 and finish by 3:00 pm. The event is open to the UBC community and beyond. We hope to see you there!
