Employer On-Campus : Irving Shipbuilding

February 5 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Irving Shipbuilding is proud to be on campus at UBC for the first time to provide students and future shipbuilders an inside look to Canada’s National Shipbuilder and the exciting work that is being done.

As Canada’s chosen combatant shipbuilder under the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), Irving Shipbuilding’s Halifax Shipyard is leading the future of naval shipbuilding. Since being selected in 2011 through a competitive national process, we’ve invested over $400 million to create North America’s most modern shipyard and deliver the ships Canada needs.

We have successfully delivered six Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships (AOPS) to the Royal Canadian Navy, with construction underway on two customized AOPS for the Canadian Coast Guard.

Next, the River-class destroyer fleet will provide advanced capability to protect Canada’s sailors and coastlines. Designed for independent operations and seamless interoperability with NORAD, NATO, and allied partners, the river-class brings world‑class defense technology to Canada’s waters. Building a single-class fleet also reduces costs, streamlines production, and enhances training and operational efficiency. We are proud to collaborate with our partners, Lockheed Martin Canada and BAE Systems, on this critical program.

Irving Shipbuilding doesn’t just build the fleet—we maintain it. Our Ship Repair team delivers essential docking work periods for the Royal Canadian Navy’s Halifax-class frigates, continuing a legacy that began when we launched the first frigate in 1988. Today, the modernization of the Halifax-class stands as a testament to our long-standing commitment to supporting Canada’s naval readiness.

Come join us on February 5th to learn about co-op and full-time opportunities. While we are specifically targeting Engineering students, this session is open to all UBC students who are interested in the marine industry. Our recruitment team will be on-site to answer any questions you may have, and we are looking forward to meeting you all!
