In commemoration of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the Faculty of Medicine’s Office of Respectful Environments, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion is hosting its first in-person Indigenous Speakers Series session, Coming Home: Honouring the Resiliency of All Survivors of the Indian Residential School Experience, on Wednesday, September 25, from 9:00 am—4:00 pm at the UBC University Centre. In this unique event, we are honoured to welcome 16 Survivors and children of Survivors of the Indian Residential School Experience.
Derek K. Thompson – Čaabať Bookwilla | Suhiltun, Hereditary Chief and Director of Indigenous Engagement, invites you to bear witness to this transformative ceremony and intergenerational conversation. This event highlights how First Nations communities approach this important work within the context of their culture, ceremonies, spiritual practices, and the unique ways that First Nations uphold these traditions in our communities. Join us in this shared journey of healing, coming together, working with one another, and strengthening our commitments to do and be better. |
