Coastal Dance Festival – Artist Talks

The Coastal Dance Festival (CDF) returns for its 19th annual celebration from March 3–8, 2026 at the Museum of Anthropology, bringing together powerful stories, songs, and dances from Indigenous peoples of BC, Yukon, Alaska, and Washington State, alongside guest Sami artists from Norway. Through a range of events, including family friendly performances, ticketed evening shows, artist talks, and film screenings, CDF is a vibrant gathering that honours living traditions while uplifting the next generation of Indigenous artists and welcomes all audience members.
The festival will host a two-part artist sharing series where artists and scholars will share their processes and practices by way of discourse, song, and story:
- Friday, March 6, 3pm: Sara Marielle Gaup Beaska & Lawra Somby (Sámi)
- Thursday, March 5, 3pm: Dr. Sarah Hunt (Kwakwaka’wakw) & Nigel Baker-Grenier (Cree/ Gitxsan) followed by film screening “So Surreal: Behind the Masks”
