CHSPR Seminar | Innovation, Access, and Sustainability: Life-Cycle Learning Healthcare as Policy

November 18 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Speaker: Dean Regier, University of BC

Health policy and economics have long focused on balancing efficiency, innovation, and access. As Canada increasingly seeks to trial and scale domestic innovations to address emergent health needs and strengthen the economy, deteriorating economic conditions and competing policy priorities will test the system’s capacity for policy-supported innovation. Life-cycle learning healthcare offers a framework for navigating these pressures by linking discovery, regulatory pathways, and system feedback across the innovation life cycle. This seminar will describe Canadian efforts to operationalize this approach to support adaptive decision-making that enables innovation and access to promising discoveries while sustaining accountability within the health system.

Dean Regier is an Associate Professor at the UBC School of Population and Public Health and the Centre for Health Services and Policy Research and the Director of the UBC Faculty of Medicine’s Academy of Translational Medicine. An internationally recognized health economist specializing in regulatory science, Dr Regier collaborates with diverse stakeholders to develop policies and practices that accelerate access to safe, effective, and sustainable healthcare. His research has significantly advanced methodologies and evidence generation to promote equitable access to genetic and genomic technologies, particularly in precision oncology and rare diseases.
