Beyond the Binaries: Detransition in Sexual & Gender Minority Communities

About the Talk
In this presentation, Dr. Kinnon R. MacKinnon will provide a brief overview of the state of the research on detransition. He will also share key insights learned from the Re/DeTrans Canada research study which was the first national, qualitative study into the experiences of shifting or reversing a gender transition and related care needs. Key considerations for expanding research on detransition in the Canadian context and beyond will be discussed.
About the Speaker
Dr. Kinnon R. MacKinnon received his BSW from York University, MSW from Ryerson University and PhD in Public Health Sciences from the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. Drawing from critical, interdisciplinary training in gender studies, social work and public health, Dr. MacKinnon’s program of research investigates the social and structural dimensions of health and social care access with a specialization in 2S/LGBTQ populations. He is currently engaged in research and resource development for individuals who discontinue or reverse a gender transition, also known as detransitioning.
