All About Bees – Look Into a Hive!

If you’ve ever wanted to see inside a live honey bee hive, this workshop is for you. During this hands-on experience, will carefully open up a working hive at the UBC Farm. You will experience first hand what happens inside the hive. You will be able to watch the bees care for young, transfer nectar between bees, communicate and even see the queen laying. You will leave with an understanding about the complex life cycle of the honey bee and take home an information sheet about how to care for pollinators of all types.

This workshop is **family-friendly**! Of course, please ensure that any children are old enough to participate in a manner that is respectful of other guests. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by parent or caretaker. All workshop attendees must be registered.

Diane Martin studied biology at UBC earning a PhD. She has since turned to beekeeping and runs her own company, Dogwood Honey & Beekeeping. She also is the head beekeeper at the Dunbar Community Centre. She enjoys interacting with people and teaching about honey bees and all the amazing things these animals do.
