Top 10 UBC Events to Check Out in September

Back to school at UBC is the most exciting time of the year — check out all of the events that September has in store for you!


September 4 — Imagine Day

On September 4th, imagine all the possibilities for you at UBC. Imagine day at UBC is an annual tradition that takes over the first day of classes— start off meeting your dean and others at the pep rally in Thunderbird stadium, and end off exploring all that the UBC community has to offer at the main event. With hundreds of booths by student groups, clubs, and societies, you’ll find your home on campus in no time. Tuum est!

September 4 – 14 — AMS FirstWeek

AMS First Week is comprised of 30 different events over the span of 2 weeks, including a pool party, a comedy show, yoga, a paint night, and more. This campus tradition is catered to students of all years and faculties, and ends off strong at Welcome Back BBQ, one of UBC’s two annual music festivals. September 7 — The 16th Annual FarmAde

FarmAde started in 2001 as a humble effort to help save the UBC farm from residential development. 16 years later, the UBC farm remains a large part of campus culture, and FarmAde has grown to be one of the largest annual events at UBC. Enjoy square dancing, bbq food, and craft beer, as it marks the beginning of another good school year.

September 8 — Wesbrook Village Festival 

Wesbrook Village is coming alive on Sept 8 with family-friend activities all day, including a kids zone (with a bouncy castle), a free BBQ, live music, and a sidewalk sale featuring local retailers and artisan products.

September 10 – 16 — UBC REC Free Week

New years day was 9 months ago, but it’s not too late to turn your resolution of becoming more active into a reality. With over 100 instructor-led classes, multiple open houses, and opening of the ARC, you’re sure to find something for you.

September 14 — Our Amazing Universe: astronomical revelations and new mysteries

This special lecture, put on by the Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies, will explore scientific observations about the Cosmos in which we live in. Dr. Francois Bouchet, a French astronomer specializing in physical cosmology, will discuss the answers to questions such as: How did the Universe originate? What is it made of? What is the nature of the Dark Matter and Dark Energy dominating our universe? Make sure to RSVP.

September 18 – 21 — UBC CVC Fresh Start to Uni

UBC’s oldest and largest social club continues to make their mark on campus with Fresh Start to Uni: 5 events over 3 days. Check out Bunny Yoga, a free BBQ, an icebreakers event, and the annual all-ages dance to end off the week!

September 20 — Harvest Feastival

Not a typo, but a campus tradition—gather to the plaza outside the Nest for an epic night, complete with a local feast with ingredients sourced from the UBC Farm. Get cozy with your family, friends, or colleagues to enjoy the arts and culture programming after!

September 22 — UBC Homecoming

Break out the blue and gold to celebrate alongside 10,000 of your closest friends, as the UBC Thunderbirds take on the Calgary Dinos.

September 29 – 30 — UBC REC Day of the Longboat

UBC REC takes over Jericho beach on September 29 and 30th with day of the Longboat, an annual UBC tradition where students scramble to the finish line on a long boat. Race competitively to win a champ shirt, or in a Just for Fun division.
