Top 10 UBC Events to Attend in September

September is an exciting time for UBC students as the summer comes to an end and the new school year begins. With so many different events and activities happening around campus it can be a little overwhelming trying to figure out which events you should go to. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of the top 10 events for students to attend in September to start the school year off right.

1. Sept 5: Imagine Day

Celebrate the first day of school with the entire Class of 2021 as you are formally welcomed to UBC. All classes are canceled so you can explore the campus, meet your dean, and make new connections. Don’t forget to wear your faculty colour and get ready to show your UBC pride at the Pep Rally! Learn More.

2. Sept 8: FarmAde 2017

Come check out FarmAde for square dancing, BBQ goodness, beer gardens and lawn games! FarmAde brings together UBC community members of all ages to celebrate community, local food and local Vancouver talent. Learn More. 

3. Sept 9: Welcome Back BBQ

Ring in the new school with one of the biggest events of the year. The AMS Welcome Back BBQ is a music festival that has a 19+ beer garden and an all ages dance floor. This years headliners include Joey Bada$$, Vanic,  Shaun Frank, and more. Learn More. 

4. Sept 2-16: AMS First Week

AMS Firstweek is a two-week orientation for all UBC students in every year and every faculty. There will be something for everyone with over 40 events across campus including: a massive all-ages pool party, a wine and painting night, the ultimate paint party, a giant music festival and more. 5. Sept 11-17: UBC REC Free Week 

Free Week is a chance for new and returning students, staff and faculty, and the general public to try out any instructor-led classes with UBC Recreation. Drop-in to fitness, yoga, Pilates, dance, martial arts, boot camps, and aquatics classes and try something new! Learn More. 

6. Sept 16: Homecoming

UBC Homecoming is a long-standing tradition to kick off the school year. The event starts off with The Great Thunderbird Trek, then a street party leading up to the football game. This year the UBC Thunderbirds take on the University of Saskatchewan Huskies. Break out your blue and gold and cheer on our Thunderbirds! Learn More. 

7. Sept 19-21: Clubs Days

If you’re looking to get involved at UBC and make new friends then look no further. Clubs Day is an annual event where you can check out hundreds of clubs and find the right one for you. There are clubs for all kinds of interests such as dancing, martial arts, cooking, gaming, photography and more. Learn More. 

8. Sept 22: Fall Softball Classic

Why not start the school year off with a fun, friendly game of softball at the annual Fall Softball Classic? Gather up your best teammates or register as a free-agent by September 18! Learn More. 

9. Sept 28: Harvest Feastival

Celebrate the new fall season with UBC’s annual Harvest Feastival. Delight your taste buds with a locally sourced 6-course feast from UBC Farm with hundreds of other UBC community members. Then engage your other senses afterwards with a visit to UBC’s world-class Art and Culture District as you let the food sink in. Learn More. 

10. Sept 30- Oct 1: Day of the LongBoat

Paddle with over 3,500 people in one of the largest voyageur canoe race in the world and UBC Recreation’s largest event. Compete with other teams in the beautiful waters off of Jericho beach in either competitive or just-for-fun races on September 30 and October 1. This is one for the bucket list! Learn More.
